Founded by women lawyers and human rights activists in 2018, and formally registered as a Community Based Organisation in 2019.
Paradigm for Social Justice & Development (PSD) is a Ugandan non-profit formed by a group of women lawyers and human rights activists committed to advancing social justice and development for youth and women. PSD was registered as a company limited by guarantee and a Community Based Organisation in 2019, and is in the process of registering as a Non-Government Organisation.
A society without injustice, violence, and poverty.
To work with vulnerable communities to address social injustice, and the alleviation of poverty and violence.
A participatory learning approach that builds real ownership and lasting capacity among both PSD staff and the communities it serves.
PSD was formed as a safe space for Ugandan women activists to define their own agenda and build an institution that recognised their challenges. Since then, it has worked across Wakiso and other districts on access to justice, ending violence against women and girls, peace and security, sexual and reproductive health rights, and women's economic development alongside a growing network of local and international partners.
PSD is governed by a Board of Directors chaired by Namubiru Zula, with Dr. Olive Sentumbwe as Vice Chairperson and Nansamba Florence as Treasurer. See the governance page for the full board.
Membership is open to any organisation or individual who shares PSD's vision. Applications are made in writing and reviewed by the Board quarterly; decisions can be appealed to the General Assembly.
Checkout the membership page for more details on how to join PSD.
Funding entrusted to PSD is tracked and reported publicly. See our safeguarding & whistleblower policy for how concerns are raised and handled.
